How good is Granger High School?

Granger earns a 2 out of 10 GreatSchools rating, and recent state testing showed proficiency below the Utah average, roughly 22 percent in language arts and about 7 percent in math. It offers AP coursework, with an AP participation rate near 17 percent, and runs a student-to-teacher ratio of about 27 to 1.

Those numbers deserve context. Granger serves a large share of English-language learners, with a large share of English-language learners and students from economically disadvantaged households. State ratings lean heavily on test scores and do not fully capture the work a school like Granger does with newcomer and dual-language families. The 2013 rebuild also gave it one of the most modern campuses in the district.

Its graduation rate was about 73 percent for the class of 2024, below the 88 percent statewide figure, and it is an area the school and district continue to work on.

The campus and student life

Granger’s current building opened in the fall of 2013, a roughly $70 million, three-story campus of about 440,000 square feet that was among the largest high school buildings in the state when it opened. It replaced the original 1958 school on the same site. The Lancer identity runs through the building, from a King Arthur and Camelot theme to a cafeteria nicknamed Stonehenge. The Lancers compete within the Granite School District, and the student body supports a wide range of clubs, cultural groups, and activities. Mascot: the Lancers. Colors: crimson, Columbia blue, and silver. Established in 1958.
