Pros and Cons of Living in Farmington, UT (2026 Guide)

Farmington is in central Davis County, about 18 miles north of Salt Lake City. It is home to Lagoon amusement park and Station Park, a major lifestyle shopping center. Population near 25,000 and growing fast thanks to extensive new construction.

The Pros of Living in Farmington

Lagoon amusement park is right in town. Free family fun for residents (the noise tradeoff is real but manageable beyond a half-mile).

Station Park is a Utah lifestyle anchor. Whole Foods, Cinemark, restaurants, retail. One of Utah’s premier outdoor lifestyle centers.

FrontRunner rail station in Farmington. Car-free commute to Salt Lake or Ogden. The Farmington station is also a major UTA hub.

Lots of new construction in West Farmington. The Centerville-Farmington corridor has been Davis County’s most active new-build market.

Davis School District quality. Same district as Bountiful and Layton.

Proximity to Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake. The Antelope Island causeway is a 15-minute drive.

Smaller suburban feel. Less density than Layton or Salt Lake County cities.

The Cons of Living in Farmington

Lagoon noise during summer. Loud rides and fireworks are real if you are within a half-mile. Tolerable beyond a mile.

I-15 traffic through Farmington. Northbound evening and southbound morning are persistent issues.

New construction premiums. Prices in West Farmington can match East-side Salt Lake County in some neighborhoods.

Limited dining outside Station Park. Most of the food scene is at the lifestyle center.

Is Farmington right for you?

Farmington is the best fit if you want new construction, Station Park access, FrontRunner commute, and a smaller suburban feel. Less ideal if Lagoon noise is a dealbreaker or you want established mature character.
